Tax Credits

Property owners in Downtown Washington may be eligible for valuable federal and Pennsylvania historic tax credits when rehabilitating income-producing properties located within historic districts. These programs encourage investment in historic buildings while preserving the architectural character that makes Downtown Washington unique.

Qualified projects that meet the Secretary of the Interior’s Standards for Rehabilitation may be eligible for a 20% Federal Historic Tax Credit and a 25% Pennsylvania Historic Preservation Tax Credit, with some workforce housing projects qualifying for enhanced incentives. These tax credits can help offset renovation costs while supporting downtown revitalization, economic development, and historic preservation efforts.
