Downtown Washington is getting ready to kick off the holiday season with several activities happening in November and December.  Local businesses are preparing for the busy shopping season in several ways.

Starting the season off is Small Business Saturday on Saturday November 24th.  This movement has encouraged shoppers to visit local mom and pop shops following Black Friday.  This year Washington businesses will be promoting their own specials and activities but coming together for a “Downtown Washington Small Business Saturday Passport.”  Nearly two dozen participating businesses will be open and be a destination points for shoppers to visit and enter to win a gift basket filled with local gift cards and products.  In order to enter, the shoppers must visit a set number of  businesses and drop off their passport stub after visiting the shops.  The winner will be announced on Tuesday November 27th.

Freedom Transit is also offering free transportation on Small Business Saturday, plus there is always free weekend parking in the City of Washington.

Businesses are also encouraged to dress their windows in the holiday spirit! A new window contest will be held now through December 12 as the public can vote for the following categories:

  • Best Use of Lights
  • Best Use of Product
  • Most Traditional

Votes will be calculated by most “likes” in each category on the Downtown Washington PA Facebook page. Businesses can enter the contest here.   Winners in each category will win a prize from Reimagine Main Street for 25,000 online impressions or two color print ads.

And lastly, the great tradition of the Main Street Christmas Parade and Holiday Market will return on Friday, December 7th! The Holiday Market will kickoff with Santa at 4PM.  Local craft and food vendors will be located under the Community Pavilion till 9PM.  The Parade will hit Main Street starting at 7PM.  Many local businesses will be staying open during the parade.

We hope you can join in celebrating the holiday season in Downtown Washington.  For more information about these programs contact Will Prince, Main Street Manager, at [email protected] or 724-288-7156.
